Kilkenny RFC Annual Dinner Dance and Awards Night

A fantastic crowd of 170 guests gathered in the Rivercourt Hotel for the Kilkenny RFC Annual Dinner Dance and Awards Night.


Following a superb meal, prepared and served by the excellent staff at the Rivercourt, President Mick Hannigan presided over his third and final awards night. Attention then turned to the presentation of awards, recognising the outstanding contributions, achievements and commitment of players and members throughout the season.


The coaches and management of the Women’s XV received a special presentation from the women’s team in recognition and thanks for their work throughout the season. The Women’s XV were also presented with their league-winning medals, marking a wonderful achievement for the squad.


The following players and members received awards on the night:


Women’s XV Awards

Kate Galvin was awarded Young Player of the Year.

Kelley Comerford received the Most Improved Player award.

Alice Brennan was named Forward of the Year.

Emily Kenny was awarded Back of the Year.

Eve Cronin received the Players’ Player of the Year award.

Caroline Quirke was named Senior Women’s Player of the Year.


Men’s Awards

Harry Matthews was awarded J2 Young Player of the Year.

Mark Coughlan received the Most Improved Player award for the Senior Men’s team.

Diarmuid Matthews Downing was awarded J2 Player of the Year.

Joe Murray was named Senior Men’s Young Player of the Year.

Josh Evans won the George Williams Senior Men’s Player of the Year award.


Club Awards and Special Presentations

Tommy Murphy received the Spirit of Rugby Award for his outstanding work in the club and his fundraising efforts for local charities.


Pat Dowling received the Enda Cantwell Club Person of the Year award in recognition of his significant contribution to Kilkenny RFC.


Garry Dunne, Podge Mahon and Joe Manuel were presented with their Honour Caps, recognising their achievement of playing over 100 Leinster League and Towns Cup games for Kilkenny RFC.


Finally, President Mick Hannigan and his wife Ruth received tokens of the club’s appreciation, marking Mick’s outstanding service and commitment during his tenure as President of Kilkenny RFC.
